The Bachmann Agenda

The Bachmann Agenda on Social Security and Medicare

"But basically what we have to do is wean everybody else off. And wean everybody off because we have to take those unfunded net liabilities off our bank sheet..."

-Michele Bachmann, Feb. 2010

BACHMANN'S VOTES HAVE BEEN DAMAGING

Bachmann Voted Against Allowing Medicare To Negotiate Prescription Drug Prices. On January 12, 2007, only days in to her first term in Congress, Bachmann voted against a bill allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices. While she was joined in her 'no' vote by fellow Minnesotan John Kline, the bill passed the House 255-170. [Vote #23, 110th Congress, 1st Session]

Bachmann Was One Of Only 59 Members To Vote Against Passage Of The 2008 Medicare Bill. In June 2008, the House passed HR 6331, a sweeping Medicare bill on a vote of 355-59. Bachmann was one of only 59 members and the only member of the Minnesota delegation to vote against the bill. [Vote #443, 110th Congress, 2nd Session]

The Bachmann Agenda: Politics Over Progress

While her colleagues in the House Republican Caucus were meeting with President Obama to talk about solutions, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann instead chose to jet off to California for a campaign swing with Tea Partiers.

While her colleagues were talking about real solutions for the people they were elected to represent (click here)

Michele Bachmann chose to put politics over progress:

She did interviews with conservative blogs talking about how she 'loves being in Southern California' (click here)

She led a TEA Party rally in Buena Park (click here) and posing paparazzi-style for the cameras (see photo, right)

Another Bachmann Hypocrisy: Apparently Only Fake Censuses Are O.K.

Bachmann opposes the Census that helps Minnesotans, yet stays silent on the “census” that raises money to assist campaigns like hers

Voters across Minnesota have opened their mailboxes to find a “2010 Congressional District Census,” covered with ominous markings such as “do not destroy” and “Official Document.”  But at the end of 36 personal questions asking respondents to divulge their age, how they vote and even what television stations they watch, voters are not asked to return their document to the U.S. Government, but to return a contribution to the Republican National Committee.

So where does Michele Bachmann stand on this misleading request for personal information?  After all, she openly expressed her fears that the information collected in the official U.S. Census, which she described as “very intricate, very personal,” would be abused, according to the Washington Times (6/17/09):

"I know for my family the only question we will be answering is how many people are in our home.  We won't be answering any information beyond that, because the Constitution doesn't require any information beyond that."

Where was Michele Bachmann?

Today, folks across the 6th District are working hard to stay in their homes and keep their jobs. Families are gathered around the kitchen table, trying to pay their bills and save just a little bit for retirement or to send the kids to college.

Bachmann the Populist? Beware...

OpEd by Sen. Tarryl Clark, as printed in the Star Tribune December 17, 2009

It should be common sense. The financial crisis we're in is in large part due to years of letting Wall Street, including banks and credit card companies, run wild with little government oversight. Taking steps to bring them back under control shouldn't be all that controversial.

Somehow, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann missed that memo ("Giving more power where power is not due," Dec. 11). Last week she voted against much-needed financial regulatory reform, saying no to a bill that represents the chance for a historic shift in the way our financial institutions do business.

By now, perhaps we're all a little used to seeing Bachmann vote with special interests in order to advance her own agenda. What's new and remarkable about this particular vote is that she's presenting her position as an act of populism, as if taking direction from Wall Street is somehow an act of standing up for Main Street.

Bachmann Votes Against Her District... Again

Votes against important funding for 6th District law enforcement, job creation, and extending Northstar to Saint Cloud

St. Cloud, MN – Congresswoman Michele Bachmann today cast her vote against the FY10 Omnibus Appropriations bill, which includes millions in funding for critical 6th District projects supporting Minnesota law enforcement and job creation, including a medical device manufacturing curriculum and completing Northstar all the way to St. Cloud.  The bill passed and will be taken up next by the U.S. Senate.

Bachmann’s vote against the bill was a vote against:

Bad Bachmann headlines, bad news for 6th District families

The headlines say it all: "Bachmann's district continues to lead state in foreclosures."

While Congresswoman Bachmann is known for grabbing headlines, these are not the headlines Minnesotans deserve.

For three years running, Minnesota's 6th Congressional District has topped the state in foreclosed homes. In 2008, more than 5,000 families across our district lost their homes. And in just July, August and September of this year, another 1,000 families found themselves out on the street - hundreds more foreclosures than in any other district in our state.

As we head into this holiday season, a time that is meant to bring families together - thousands of Minnesotans are facing a holiday season and a cold winter without a home.

So what has Michele Bachmann done to address this crisis facing our families?

Nothing.

The Bachmann Agenda: Pants on Fire

The saying goes, "liar, liar, pants on fire."

And that's just what the St. Petersburg Times is saying about recent statements by Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.

In their Pulitzer Prize-winning feature, PolitiFact.com, they've fact-checked seven of Congresswoman Bachmann's recent statements, on topics from health care to the census. They each rated between "false" and "pants on fire."

Read it for yourself by clicking here.

Michele Bachmann's rhetoric isn't just getting tiresome. It's coming at the cost of her doing what's supposed to be her job - strengthening our economy, delivering on quality affordable health care, and looking out for Minnesota children and families. Minnesotans deserve to be represented by someone who will fight for them - and deliver results.

Bachmann stands with Coulter (literally) in conservative calendar

You may have heard about a brand new calendar for 2010 that's become the talk of pundits and news organizations. It's called "Great American Conservative Women," and it features Michele Bachmann standing alongside right-wing talking heads like Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin.

Check it out here.

It's a picture-perfect way to illustrate just what's at stake in this election:

Michele Bachmann stands with Ann Coulter.

Tarryl Clark stands with you - the hard-working men and women of Minnesota.

While Michele Bachmann has been spending her time appearing on national talk shows and criss-crossing the country to speak at conservative conventions (not to mention posing for this new calendar!), countless opportunities have been missed back at home -- opportunities to create jobs by investing in infrastructure; opportunities to expand our transportation options, including Northstar; opportunities to help keep seniors and families in their homes during tough economic times.
