(Duluth, MN) – On the heels of President Clinton’s endorsement last week, Democracy for America (DFA) announced its support Tarryl Clark in her campaign for Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District.
“Tarryl Clark has dedicated her career in law and public service to removing barriers for families, communities, and small business to succeed and thrive,” said Democracy for America in a statement upon endorsing Clark. “Tarryl understands that America is at a crossroads, and she believes that citizens can come together to create change. Democracy for America is proud to join the powerful grassroots network supporting Tarryl as a strong progressive voice for Congress.”
DFA joins a growing list of endorsements for Clark as she heads into her August 14th primary election, including President Bill Clinton, the United Steelworkers and the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees, the National Committee to Protect Social Security and Medicare, EMILY’s List, the Women’s Campaign Fund, the National Organization of Women, the National Women’s Political Caucus, womenwinning, and an increasing number of current and former elected and community officials across Minnesota.
“I am humbled by the endorsement of Democracy for America, and their one million members across our country,” said Clark. “Like me, DFA is committed to engaging people in grassroots campaigns. Over the last 15 months, we have built a strong grassroots campaign with over 12,000 contributors giving just $51.55 on average and hundreds of volunteers committed to shifts in the next 8 days alone. Their endorsement recognizes all of our hard work getting here.”
Democracy for America is a national, one million member grassroots organization working to change our country from the bottom up. Founded by Howard Dean in 2004, DFA provides campaign training, organizing resources, and media exposure in support of progressive issues and candidates up and down the ballot.
Tarryl Clark continues to campaign throughout Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District to unseat Freshman Tea Party Congressman Chip Cravaack. Tarryl was born in Norfolk, VA while her dad served in the U.S. Navy. She and her husband Doug raised their two sons in central Minnesota. Tarryl has worked and volunteered throughout central and northeastern Minnesota over the last 24 years including as a high school youth minister, founding director of central MN Habitat for Humanity, nonprofit senior citizen attorney, executive director of MN's Community Action Partnership, legislative leader, and most recently as national co-chair of the Jobs21! Campaign for the BlueGreen Alliance which brought her to Duluth in early 2011.
