Listening > TalkingWhen I was growing up I learned that it’s better to listen than to talk. Unfortunately, my opponent, Tea Party Congressman Cravaack did not learn the same lesson. When asked to help with long term infrastructure projects important to my district, like the Northern Lights Express (NLX) high speed rail project, Chip approached the project “…without an open mind” according to local officials and he is now spreading false information about this important project. The NLX will create tens of thousands of jobs today and bring billions in investments to communities that desperately need it. The congressman tried to explain his opposition to NLX by saying other infrastructure was more important – but his actions speak louder than his words. He voted to remove $18 billion from the highway trust fund at a cost of 54,000 jobs. He also supports ending Essential Air Service support that keeps local airports up and running. Clearly, Chip is talking out of both sides of his mouth to appease his Tea Party base while killing a project that has in the past been supported by both Republicans and Democrats. Not to mention a project our region desperately needs. We all need to stand up and call, email or even tweet at the congressman and tell him he is wrong on the NLX and wrong on ignoring other infrastructure needs. As a State Senator I used the lessons from my childhood about listening and bringing people together to be a successful legislator. It’s what I did here in Minnesota and that’s what I will do in Congress. There is no reason why we have a Congressman focused on gutting Medicare and killing much needed jobs here instead of listening to the people and looking at the data. I support the NLX because it’s a plan for the future. This is a clear difference between myself and Chip. He is trying to move our country and communities back to the 19th century while I want to make sure we are focusing on the priorities that will create good jobs into the 21st century. Let’s tell Chip that we want our priorities taken care of, not those of the extremist tea party. Thank you, Tarryl Clark PS. Congressman Cravaack’s opposition to the NLX project is just another example of his short-sighted ideological extremism. He is taking is marching orders from Michele Bachmann and shadowy outside groups, not the people of his district. Sign our petition and tell Chip Cravaack to listen to the people he is supposed to represent. Posted on November 2, 2011.
