2012

I love the start of every new year. It’s a chance to reflect on the previous year – what we did well, what we need to do better – and to anticipate the opportunities of the coming year. 2012 is a blank slate and a chance to move forward personally, as a community and as a country. The most exciting prospect is the opportunity to take back our country from the Tea Party extremists like Chip Cravaack and his friends Michele Bachmann and Paul Ryan.

To start 2012 strong, we need to end 2011 with a “bang” – and not just at the stroke of midnight! I emailed you a few days ago about our goal of raising $10,000 online before the ball drops on Saturday night. Reaching this goal will ensure that we go into the New Year ready to take our country back.

Will you stand up with me in 2012? Give $3 or more to power my fight against the Tea Party’s corporate machine. Our families and communities can’t afford another year of Tea Party reign.

Time and time again we’ve seen the Tea Party hold the middle class hostage, demanding we bow to their hyper-partisan plans to benefit their Billionaire and corporate backers. A year from now, we will have the chance to reflect on 2012 as the year we sent the Tea Party back to the fringes and brought sanity back to Congress. But to make this happen we need to act now, in the waning days of 2011.

In 2011 the Tea Party declared war on women, seniors and our communities. We fought hard to protect Medicare and women’s access to basic healthcare. It was hard to move our country forward in 2011 when our efforts had to be focused on protecting fundamental services.
